Homemade French toast and syrup
No need to purchase frozen French toast sticks (inside all that crummy packaging)--not when it’s so easy and yummy to do it yourself.
Make use of leftover French or Italian bread and do up some French toast. Don’t forget the strawberry syrup, too!
Homemade French toast
1” thick slices of French or Italian bread
4 eggs
½ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Mix the eggs, milk and vanilla and spices in a shallow bowl.
Get some butter melting in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Dip both sides of the bread into the egg mixture.
Cook until golden brown on both sides.
Strawberry Syrup
1 cup fresh or frozen (but thawed) strawberries, sliced
¼ cup water
1 cup sugar
Put ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.
Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
