Be an ambrosia salad designer

Recently I spontaneously purchased some ambrosia at a deli counter. It seemed a little pricey but just looked too good to pass up.
The deli ambrosia was refreshing and tasty; but as I ate it, I could help but think how easy (and inexpensive) it would have been to make myself.
Ambrosia is one of those dishes you can tailor to your own tastes. Some people add coconut, but the show won’t stop if it is omitted.
Here is one delicious ambrosia combination:
Ingredients:
(Try really hard to get most of the ingredients locally, like from a produce market.)
Tub of Cool Whip
Canned pineapples, drained
Canned mandarin oranges, drained
Chopped seedless grapes
Mini marshmallows
Some kind of chopped nuts—pecans are really good
Coconut (unless someone in the family protests)
Fold into the Cool Whip, all the other ingredients.
The dish can be chunky or the fruits could be chopped on the small side. Put in as much or as little of the add-ins as you like.
Mix and match with other ingredients to design your own signature summer ambrosia salad.
